In short, we want to know where you are, how you got there, and where you’d like to go. The scope of our cooperation can be a comprehensive or focused financial plan, or we can work specifically in the field of investment or risk management strategies; may include individual, couple, family, multigenerational or business planning. We aim to make it as simple as possible by taking you through OUR SIX STEP PROCESS, the Four Peaks Planning Spectrum. As you work your way through the spectrum, you’ll move from financial uncertainty to clarity as each step opens up new opportunities.
Our Financial Planning Approach
Asset allocation is the process of spreading your money across several types of investments to control risk. Different types of investments respond differently to economic conditions. Some people can do very well when the economy is bad, but bad when things are bad. Others may do better when the economy is struggling. Profits from some investments are designed to offset losses from others. Asset allocation is designed to help you better manage risk and achieve your goals.
Your ideal asset allocation depends on several factors. As we move together through our six-step process, called the financial planning spectrum, we’ll help you determine your ideal asset allocation strategy.
Today, there are more than 10,000 mutual funds and ETFs. At Four Peaks, we have a defined process to select the funds that best fit our strategy. There has been considerable debate over the use of active and passive management. Active management uses a portfolio manager and research team to either outperform the fund’s benchmark index or better control risk relative to their index. Passive management, also known as indexing, has no human element and attempts to mirror an existing benchmark index. Active management carries higher fees than passive management, so it must exceed those fees to add value to the investor. Our research has shown that active and passive management work well in a variety of economic conditions. Rather than choosing sides, our philosophy incorporates both strategies in an attempt to manage risk, participate in stable markets, and control costs.
Our Investment Policy Committee begins selecting our funds by applying filters across the mutual fund and ETF world to separate funds that meet our criteria from those that do not.
Financial Plans: Budgets
Once we are satisfied that we have gathered all the relevant information, our Investment Policy Committee will decide which funds will be added to our strategy.
Once investments are added to our strategies, they are continuously monitored for compliance with our criteria. If we decide that a fund no longer meets our requirements, we place it on a formal watch list, subjecting the management team to greater scrutiny and more frequent communication. At the end of this process, our Investment Policy Committee will decide whether the fund should remain in our strategy or whether to replace it with a new fund.
At Four Peaks Planning and Investments, risk management is of utmost importance. We are not trying to “beat the market”. By better monitoring market ups and downs, we believe we can help our clients achieve their life goals with less uncertainty over time.
By combining different types of investments in different sizes, we can create strategies ranging from conservative to aggressive. Each client’s ability to assume risk is unique and depends on many factors.
