I’m an entrepreneur and in my early twenties I thought that meant coming up with new ideas. I finally realized that it’s much easier to start with a problem: if your idea doesn’t clearly solve a problem, it’s an uphill battle.
How To Make Money Blogging Reddit
In 2020, I co-founded an investment newsletter called Ticker Nerd, which quickly grew and acquired quickly. I attribute most of the company’s success to early validation of the idea on Reddit. And it wasn’t a one-time deal: other small online businesses I’ve started have also experienced similar success using Reddit and other organic channels for validation and initial growth.
The Reddit Recap Experience Is Back And Available For All
Here, I’ll share how I spot problems worth solving, then quickly test whether my solution is viable—and how you can do the same.
Business ideas are fun (and often easy), but without a confirmed problem and an appropriate solution, the idea is bound to fail. All successful companies really do is solve big enough problems for an audience that is willing to pay.
A perfect example of this is Here’s the problem: Business owners, marketers, and other digital professionals struggle to get information from one software to another. Unless they can write an API or have a team that can do the technical work, it’s something they just can’t do. And even if they have a support team, it’s expensive and time-consuming.
2017: “I get joy from co-coding and hacking APIs” 2022: “I get joy from creating Zaps” Hosting code, servers and configuring APIs is such a hard job! No code wins.— Pat Walls (@thepatwalls) February 17, 2022

Solves this by providing thousands of out-of-the-box connections between popular business applications. It is cost effective, easy to use and reliable. It also happens to be a cool idea.
Not all problems are of equal value, so it is equally important to identify which ones are worth solving. To increase your chances of success in business, ask yourself the following three questions before deciding to solve a problem:
For example, you may see that email marketers struggle to generate subject lines. And because subject lines can make or break an email campaign, marketers typically spend hours rewriting them. The solution to this problem could be an AI tool that generates topics based on email content. But if you’ve never written any code or managed a team of developers, you’re probably not equipped to solve the problem.
This is why Copy AI and Jasper have grown exponentially faster than their long list of competitors. They were solving a big problem for a willing-to-pay audience—and they were well-equipped to do it in terms of technical expertise and funding.
The Impact Of Artificial Intelligence (ai) On The Financial Technology (fintech) Industry
Because the Internet is full of information (mostly terrible, some amazing), it can be used to find problems that your potential customers are suffering from. Here are the four ways I’ve found most helpful for spot problems.
Customers who leave negative reviews feel strongly about the experience they had and usually include a lot of detail. This is valuable information for anyone trying to find a problem worth solving. The gems are in the 1 to 3 star reviews – go to Amazon and take a look.
Here’s an example: disposable beauty face masks are wasteful and expensive. That seems like a solid problem. Maybe that could be solved with reusable silicone face masks? An easy way to test this hypothesis is to read reviews of existing silicone face masks.
Check out that level of detail. We have found that people do not enjoy the silicone face mask experience because it is uncomfortable and has fit issues. People can even use them to hold disposable masks in place – it doesn’t actually replace them. This could be an opportunity to improve the product or turn to something else.
Content Tactics To Promote Your Blog And Boost Traffic
People are passionate about their hobbies and share every detail in Facebook groups. This makes it a good place to identify the problems they are facing.
For example, if you go to a spearfishing Facebook group, you’ll probably see them talking about how they often get run over by boats and jet skis (because spearfishers wear camouflage blue suits and the buoys they use are quite far from them. It’s not unusual). This is a big problem that anglers would probably pay good money to solve, and it’s certainly not an idea you’d come up with during a brainstorming session.
Speaking of niches, active subreddit members are a really passionate audience. Tools like Subreddit Stats are built specifically to analyze subreddit data, such as subreddit growth, what other subreddit users are active in, and frequent keywords.
You can see that the r/Blogging subreddit has been growing steadily over the past few years, which is great: big growth spurts aren’t always a good sign because they can hurt the quality of posts in the subreddit. This year’s best entries are also quite interesting. From a user making their first dollar to another user who has 100,000 hits, the problems these users face are likely to be different.
When Is The Best Time To Post On Reddit In 2023? (and Worst!)
By analyzing the top keywords in the subreddit, you can start to make some predictions about what type of problems R/Blogging members are facing.
At first glance, you might assume that non-technical and inconsistent bloggers struggle to monetize their blogs. This seems like a pretty big problem to deal with, especially if the reason people start a blog is to eventually monetize it. From there you can read a few of the posts to get a deeper insight.
Ticker Nerd was built to scratch my own itch. My business partner sent me a huge amount of stock information. I couldn’t keep up and realized there had to be a more efficient way to stay on top of the stock market. We had a quick phone call to discuss the problem.
We decided we could solve this by showing trending stocks (via social mentions). We then ran a sentiment analysis to find out what the internet was saying instead of scouring Reddit and Twitter. The solution evolved over time, but it solved a real problem I was experiencing.

Once you find a problem that you think is worth solving, a sustainable solution is usually easy to spot. Conducting user interviews is a great way to hear first hand if your problem and solution fit – I used user brainstorming and user testing to facilitate the process. But my favorite way to confirm a fix is via reddit.
Of course, the easiest way to know if your customers love your solution is if they pay you for it. With a landing page and the right Reddit posts, you can do this.
Note: Reddit moderators have a very low tolerance for spam. This means you’ll need a decent old Reddit account, and you’ll need to—for your sake and the sake of other Redditors—follow the subreddit’s guidelines correctly.
I use Carrd or Webflow, but any landing page builder will do the trick. The goal is to pre-sell a limited amount of your product. Logos, branding, fonts, things like that – they don’t matter right now. Don’t get hung up on the little things.
How To Advertise On Reddit: A Guide To Self Serve Reddit Ads
Make sure the copy is compelling. If you are a novice writer, use the AIDA (Attention, Interest, Desire and Action) method. You want as many people who view your landing page as possible to take action, so focus on your call to action (CTA).
I use Gumroad, but you can choose any platform that allows you to start receiving payments. Enter an early bird or presale price under $100. This will be the sweet spot – any more and people will hesitate to pay.
One way to find relevant subreddits is through a tool called Anvaka. The goal is to identify where your potential customers are most active, find the posts that perform well, and then replicate them.
Using the tool, you can see that members of the r/Blogging subreddit are also active in r/opywriting, r/juststart, r/content_marketing, r/SEO, and more. These are all subreddits you should be posting to.
Why Is Reddit So Excited About Supply Chain Visualization?
You can click on any of the subreddits and rank the top posts of all time. This will give you an indication of how valuable your post should be.
Avoid reposting the same post in each group and be sure to follow the subreddit rules or your post will be removed. Also, it’s best to post a link to your site in a comment, not the main post. An offer
