Although the Mediterranean diet is a vegetarian or plant-based diet, there are no basic restrictive rules, deprivations or calorie counting like other diets. Eating the Mediterranean way is all about satisfaction, inclusion and enjoying your favorite foods in moderation.

It’s not a “diet” in the narrow sense, but a well-balanced meal that you can adapt and use throughout the day to make healthy choices that respect your body.

To help you get started, I’ve put together a Mediterranean diet plan with some tips and recipes. Use my meal plan as a plan to help you make sustainable food choices and spice up your mealtime with lots of flavor. Here are the quick basics of what to eat when following the Mediterranean diet:

Meal planning starts in the pantry. You’ll find that the Mediterranean way of cooking uses simple ingredients that are available in most grocery stores (and you may already have on hand). I have a complete Mediterranean food shopping list for you. But in addition to stocking your fridge with greens and leafy greens, and some good wild fish and other seafood in your freezer, here are my staple pantry staples and often Mediterranean uses in cooking:

If you’re new to meal planning, it can seem overwhelming and time-consuming to plan meals. However, with my six tips, you can see that meal planning can be simple, easy, and hopefully, fun.

The first tip if you are new to meal planning is to keep the diet basic. You might think that basic is boring. Yes, I can. However, when it comes to meal planning, mix it up.

I don’t know about you, but on the weekends I’m tired, cranky, and don’t want to spend hours in the kitchen. Staple meals help me stay on plan and keep me from ordering tanks too often.

The Easy Meal Planning Tutorial That Makes A Beginner Look Like A Pro

You’ll notice that one of our favorite dishes is the taco salad. I can eat this every week and not get sick. Very tasty and delicious!

My second tip is to think of food ideas that you already know how to make. Write down at least five meal ideas for each category: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack. You can even add a fifth category; Sweet

The idea is to write down as many food ideas as possible. why? So when planning your weekly meals, you have options to choose from. Going back to tip number one again. Do not complicate. If you need some ideas for inspiration, I recommend going to allrecipes.com for some ideas.

You can see an example of my nutritious meal ideas above. Yes, it’s basic, but guess what? Makes planning meals for the week easy.

Keto Diet Meal Plan For Beginners

Third tip, and my favorite part. Choosing food! Put your brain into a list and choose what you want to eat for the week. With breakfast, lunch, and snacks, I recommend sticking to the same three to four meals throughout the week.

Whereas for dinner, I’ll use a brainstorming list for food and a day. I’m usually tired of cooking by day five. However, if you want to cook seven meals for the week, go for it.

I also recommend checking your calendar to see what you’re up to this week. Plan around and not against activities you already have planned.

Want to save on paper? Place a blank meal plan sheet in a plastic sleeve and use a wet eraser or chalkboard marker. This way you can clean up your weekly diet and use it again and again.

The fourth tip is to make sure you add fruits and vegetables to your diet. I’ve found that if I add fruits and vegetables to my plan, I’m more likely to eat them.

Another tip when planning meals, plan for leftovers. There are certain foods that my family and I love so much that we willingly eat the same for dinner and lunch. For us, this meal is delicious meatloaf, taco salad, and pizza. I recommend finding your favorites and eating leftovers.

Finally, plan what to buy at the grocery store. You can do this with paper and pencil or get high tech and use an app on your phone.

However, it is very important to plan what you will need to prepare your meal. This guide is very important to prevent impulse buying in the store. It can also help you avoid conflict with your spouse.
