Singtel’s standard prepaid SIM card is called hi! SIM card, while Singtel’s tourist SIM card is called hi!Tourist SIM card. Here is an overview of Singtel prepaid SIM cards and Singtel Travel SIM cards.

For the $30 and $50 SIM cards, you can top up your Main Account to extend the validity of the card, however, hi! Tourist rates (100 GB data, 3000 minutes of local calls, 5000 SMS, international data) cannot be extended. In other words, the tourist hi!SIM card becomes a normal hi! SIM card after expiry and after addition. I hope that makes sense.

Hello! Travel SIM cards offer unlimited use of Facebook, Whatsapp, LINE, and WeChat, however if you read the fine print it says that use is limited to 1GB per day. I would just say ignore this gimmick because if you have 100GB of free local data why would you care about 1GB of free social media data.

The regular StarHub prepaid SIM card is called StarHub Prepaid while the StarHub travel SIM card is called StarHub Travel Prepaid. Below is a comparison of StarHub prepaid SIM cards.

Based on my past experience, I believe that StarHub is the most competitive operator, often offering better value compared to other operators with their promotions. But it seems to me that they have too many promotions, extras, bonuses and different high prices. Some suggestions last a long time, others disappear after a while.

It is difficult to make the right decision when trying to choose the best StarHub card or the best StarHub plans at any time if the models are constantly changing. To keep things simple, I recommend ignoring all bonuses when deciding which card/plan is best.

A regular prepaid SIM card is called M1 Prepaid SIM Card while a tourist SIM card is called M1 Tourist SIM Card. Below is a comparison of all M1 prepaid cards.

## In Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia and Taiwan, you can use your existing data from local data plans at no extra charge (but you must activate data roaming first). For other countries, you need to buy a roaming package.

Now that I’ve covered each carrier’s prepaid SIM cards, it’s time to compare these SIM cards from different carriers, based on a few factors.

Prepaid Sim Cards

Different people have different lengths of stay, data usage and other preferences. For simplicity, I will assume that short-term visitors are leisure visitors who use a lot of internet (between 1 GB and 3 GB) every day for traveling, searching for information about moving, and using social media. .

For short-term travelers, I will compare SIM cards that give you at least 80GB, which is more than enough for a one-month stay in Singapore.

If you think you don’t fall into this category because you can live offline while exploring Singapore, you can skip this section and move on to the next section where I discuss the standard prepaid SIM card for travelers they are long term.

There are 4 tourist SIM cards for short-term visitors to Singapore for up to 7 days, namely:

If you are staying in Singapore within 7 days, you can get a $12 Tourist SIM from Singtel/StarHub/M1 Tourist SIM.

However, if you are planning a day trip to Malaysia or Indonesia within 7 days, both StarHub $12 Travel Prepaid SIM and Singtel $12 hi! The tourist SIM gives you 1GB of roaming data to Happy Roam destinations including Malaysia and Indonesia.

The good thing about the $12 StarHub Travel Prepaid SIM is the Happy Roam feature, which gives SIM users free roaming data that can be used in more than 17 countries. That’s more countries compared to the 4 countries that Singtel users Tourist SIM can get them.

If you visit any of these 17 countries after Singapore (Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand , United Kingdom, United States of America), consider getting a StarHub Travel Prepaid SIM for $12.

If you don’t need a lot of data because you can use the Wi-Fi of a hotel or hostel, or if you are traveling on a budget and think that paying $12 for data is a waste of money but you need a SIM card to make calls. , scroll down and read the section on long-term travelers on a budget.

If you are visiting Singapore for the first time and want to explore the country by public transport, you must have a transport card. To understand all the different Singapore transport cards, read: Singapore Tourist Pass, EZ Link or Standard Ticket? Which is better?

If you’ve read my travel card guide and decided you want an EZ-Link card, I recommend getting Singtel’s $15 Hi!Tourist EZ-Link SIM card. Here are some details about this card:

PS: If you are in Singapore for the first time, I recommend checking out my extensive Singapore Travel Guide library to help you plan your trip.

While there are travel SIM cards that give you 100GB with 12-day and 15-day validity, I no longer recommend these SIMs as you can find a cheaper SIM with more data like as you can see in the table above.

The total data you can get on the $15 Singtel card is 110GB, the $15 StarHub card is 127.2GB, and the $20 M1 is 100GB. Based on data allowance alone, the $15 StarHub prepaid SIM card is clearly the winner.

To be clear, I define budget travelers as those who want to spend as little money as possible and do not need a lot of data since they will be using Wi-Fi in their accommodation.

I define long-term visitors as people who stay in the country for more than one month. And I define residents as people who live and work in rural areas.
